What do Sony, Columbia-TriStar, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Universal, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, Warner Brothers and directors including Michael Mann, Oliver Stone, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Don Johnson, and David Anspaugh have in common? They have all hired film and television composer Tim Truman. You’ll see his name credited for numerous main title themes for shows including NBC’s "Providence", "Central Park West", and the famous "Melrose Place". He received a Emmy nomination and numerous ASCAP awards for his main title themes, a Gold Hugo Award for Best Score, and ASCAP’s Top Television Series Composer’s award for the hit series "Charmed".

Tim was born and raised in La Mesa, California near San Diego. People who knew him will tell you that he was destined for a career in the field of music. He began to explore his musical interests by playing the drums and trumpet. By his early teens, Tim was playing a full range of percussion instruments and writing for bands and orchestras.

Tim graduated from University of Southern California with a major in Musical Composition. He thrived in this small, elite composition department and graduated with honors. Right out of college, Tim began to write for the series "Buffalo Bill", which starred Dabney Coleman, Geena Davis, and Meshach Taylor. He went on to write for "Duck Factory", Jim Carrey's first television venture. When Nelson Riddle passed away, Truman stepped into his shoes as composer for the hit series "Newhart". He worked on "Newhart" for six seasons and composed over 150 episodes all with live orchestras.

Tim’s next assignment was by far one of the most exciting projects of his life. "Captain EO" which starred Michael Jackson, was a world famous futuristic attraction for Disneyland theme parks. Tim worked closely with Michael Jackson, producer George Lucas, and director Francis Ford Coppola to create this magnificent project. While working on "Captain EO", Tim was also working on NBC's "Coming of Age" series, as well as Barry Kemp’s "The Popcorn Kid".

When Composer Jan Hammer was exiting his post on "Miami Vice", he looked at over 100 composers to fill his shoes. Director Michael Mann chose Tim to do 22 episodes of this hit series.

Following "Miami Vice", Truman composed the international hit main title theme for "Melrose Place". This theme song is recognized in almost every country in the world. He scored over 70 episodes of "Melrose Place" and after MP scored numerous other acclaimed ‘Spelling’ shows including ‘Pacific Palisades’, ‘Models Inc’, and composed the main title theme for the hit Spelling soap "Sunset Beach".

Included among Truman's other credits are "The Marshall" starring Jeff Fahey, "Company of Darkness" directed by David Anspaugh and starring Helen Hunt, "Central Park West" starring Lauren Hutton and Muriel Hemmingway, and numerous "Movies of the Week" for ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, as well as several HBO and Showtime specials. From television, Truman made the natural progression into film, with work on Oliver Stone's critically acclaimed feature "South Central", "Marshal Law" starring Jimmy Smits, and "Sketch Artist II" starring Courtney Cox.

Tim has composed and conducted music for 100-piece orchestras on his projects. He used a 60-piece orchestra for East West's production of "Good Luck" starring Gregory Hines. Most recently, he scored the Orion/Motion Picture Corporation of America release "Retroactive" starring James Belushi, Usonia Pictures "Executive Power", and "Angel’s Dance" starring James Belushi and Cheryl Lee.

He has also produced with recording artists including Nancy Wilson (Heart), Kenny Rogers, Ali Woodson (The Temptations), Donna Summers, Peter Cetera and Patti Austin. Currently, Tim is currently working with NBC composing music for the network's 2000 Olympic campaign. Truman owns and operates the Global Sanity Studio Complex, where he records, produces, composes, and runs his music publishing company, Tim Truman Music and the World Music Group.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys traveling, visiting cultural centers, attending museums and spending time with his 8 year old son, J.P.
